A slow website costs you twice: visitors leave before they see your offer, and search engines take user experience into account. Google’s Core Web Vitals are the standard way to measure that experience.
The three metrics
| Metric | Measures | Good target |
|---|---|---|
| LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) | How quickly the main content appears | 2.5 seconds or less |
| INP (Interaction to Next Paint) | How quickly the page responds to clicks and taps | 200 ms or less |
| CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) | How much the layout jumps while loading | 0.1 or less |
Fixes with the biggest impact
- Compress and resize images; use modern formats such as WebP or AVIF
- Serve the site through a CDN close to your visitors
- Remove unused JavaScript, plugins and third-party scripts
- Reserve space for images and embeds to stop layout shifts
- Cache pages and API responses
Test on real devices
Measure on mid-range phones and mobile networks, not only on a fast office laptop. That is how many of your international visitors will see you.
